I just decided he's guilty, so he is. I figure the logic is equally valid to his blaming "the Jews." I mean, what Jews is he even talking about? Aunt Ellen? Uncle Mark?

What a dirtbag Mel is. I don't care if he made the Lethal Weapon movies. He also made Signs, which I've decided is unforgivable. Then he made The Passion Of The Jesus and proved himself completely bonkers.

For your fun and mine, I will now make a categorical comparison between his movie and another one I saw about the saviour of mankind.

Does not specifically depict Jews at all. No inaccurate depiction of Pontius Pilate transpires. +1	Depicts Jews as filthy snakes. In one scene, the devil walks amongst them. In several others, shows random Jewish torture of Jesus not even mentioned in the New Testament (which was itself written past AD 70). Shows Pontius Pilate to be intelligent and thoughtful, though in fact he was a cold-hearted murderer. +0
